Newlab 19 Morris Ave · Brooklyn, NY

After a long break, we are excited to announce the next in-person event for the NYC Robotics Meetup group, hosted at Newlab in the Brooklyn Navy Yard.

The first Robotics Meetup in November 2021 was a great success — Thanks to Brian of Duro UAS and Abhinav of Orangewood Labs for being our inaugural speakers. We are excited to continue to grow our this meetup group for robotics enthusiasts and robotics companies to meet, present about their work, demo new fun hardware and network.

Special thanks to our event sponsor, Standard Bot.
Standard Bots is one of the only US-based robotics companies that designs, manufactures, and sells a six axis robotic arm. The founders have deep technical experience, including building the biggest vertical farming operation in the world, now valued at over $2B. They believe robotics will be the next major platform, and their vertically integrated approach —designing their own software, firmware, electronics and mechanical parts together— is the only way to provide the best user experience.
The Standard Bot robot has best-in-class affordability, payload, repeatability, and acceleration, along with a camera built into the robot’s wrist that makes programming much easier for the user, an ASIC for accelerating edge inference workloads, and direct measurement of torque on each of the robot’s joints. Standard Bot’s goal is to democratize robotics in the same way that the Apple II did with the PC industry in the 1970s.

Additional thanks to our event supporters Newlab , Mevo, and informal, and to YOU for your interest in supporting and growing the robotics community in New York.

Agenda:
6:00-6:20 – Meet & Greet / Networking

6:20-6:30 – Introduction & Welcome

6:30-6:50 – Daniel Blank, Co-Founder & CEO, Toggle
Toggle is accelerating construction by bringing industrial robotics and automation to rebar for reinforced concrete. By modularizing and prefabricating this critical building material we can get critical energy and urban infrastructure built faster and safer at a time when communities need these projects most.

6:55-7:15 – Pietro Filardo, Founder & CEO, Pliant Energy Systems LLC
After ten years working as an architect, in 2011 Pietro returned to renewable energy concepts he first pondered while studying marine biology and oceanography. He established Pliant’s lab with funding from National Science Foundation, the US Department of Defense, US Department of Agriculture, US Department of Energy, and NYSERDA. Pliant’s lab has developed his foundational insights beyond renewable energy, culminating in novel propulsion systems and marine robotics.

Pietro will summarize Pliant Energy’s –

  • Techno-history
  • Ongoing R&D program to develop an autonomous amphibious vehicle for the US Navy
  • Collaboration with MIT
  • Evolving corporate identity

7:20-7:40 – Ritukar Vijay, Co-Founder & CEO, Ottonomy.io
Ottonomy makes fully autonomous robots providing contactless deliveries of food & retail items, in both indoor and outdoor environments. Ottonomy is the first company in the world to use autonomous robots for food deliveries inside an airport. The primary focus is on helping retailers and restaurants to automate deliveries instead of hiring more people.
We enable our retails and restaurant customers to

  • Help manage the surge in deliveries without increasing hiring
  • Allow employees to focus on core duties instead of deliveries

7:45-8:00+ – Closing remarks, Lightning Talks, community announcements, networking and demos.

Food and Drinks to be provided.

Proof of vaccination is no longer required to enter the Newlab building. The following is acceptable proof of vaccination: NYC Covid Safe App, NY State Excelsior Pass, CDC card (including a photo of same), or other official documents.

The event will be livestreamed for anyone that cannot attend in-person.
